Nordic announced it recently has signed with SEGGER to license all developers allowed to use Embedded Studio to develop Nordic nRF51 & nRF52 application freely without any limitations.
Getting started with SEGGER Embedded Studio and the nRF5 SDK Tutorial Video:
Currently developers use either commercial IDEs, such as Keil and IAR, or open source IDEs to write codes and debug for nRF51 and nRF52 projects. The most frequent feedback from developers are those IDE’s too expensive, uneasy, or not completed. Now, with Nordic’s licensing of Embedded Studio, developers can have a free access and fully completed support for nRF5 SDK development
Started from nRF5 SDK v14.1, Embedded Studio supports all examples to enable a quick start for BLE development. Surely, the original IDE.s such as Keil V4 & V5, IAR, and GCC projects still can be continually supported by this latest SDK for existing projects and users.
Another tip for those developers who are interested in Bluetooth Mesh network, Raytac is strongly recommend to use Embedded Studio IDE for development.
